Help for ill people in need

Villa Zagala – a slum in Buenos Aires/Argentina. Here, Dr. Carina Vetye (left in the picture) has set up a pharmacy that provides free medicine for the poorest of the poor.

Dr. Carina Vetye runs for Pharmacists without Borders Germany a pharmacy for the poorest in a slum of Buenos Aires. In the Argentinean health system there are health centres in the poor districts, but these often do not have the necessary basic medicines or do not have the medicines in sufficient quantities in stock. The regular supply of medicines is essential for chronic patients. Since most slum dwellers only have informal jobs, they have no health insurance and would have to pay for every medicine missing in the health centre completely out of their own pockets. In the case of long-term illnesses, this is an unbearable financial burden that quickly overwhelms the families. For this reason, Dr. Vetye ensures that the medicines needed are always in stock and available free of charge.

In order to be able to guarantee this work, she is still urgently dependent on donations.

If you would like to support Dr. Vetye’s work – her great thanks go to you – please visit either www.apotheker-ohne-grenzen.de in Germany or www.friendsofcarina.ch in Switzerland. The Swiss association “Friends of Carina” was founded exclusively to support Dr. Vetye, as the founders of the association are absolutely convinced and enthusiastic about her performance and her commitment for the people in slums.
